Pre-Approved Medical Aids and Mobility Devices

Applicants may bring the following items into the testing room without prior approval, subject to visual inspection during security screening. However, to simplify the security check process, the Office of Attorney Admissions (“OAA”) recommends that applicants notify the OAA before the exam administration of their intention to bring one or more of these items. Applicants who plan to bring one or more of these items should complete and submit to OAA a Notice of Medical Aid or Mobility Device. The Notice is available HERE.

• Inhalers
• Auto-Injector, such as EpiPen
• Braces – Neck, Back, Wrist, Leg, or Ankle
• Casts – including slings for broken/sprained arms and other injury-related items that cannot be removed
• Eye Patches
• Glucose Tablets (does not include hard candy) – must be unwrapped and not in a bottle/container
• Hearing aids/Cochlear implant – See additional information below
• Medical Alert Bracelet
• Medical device – Must be attached to the applicant’s body and be silent. If the device makes noise, then applicants must apply and be approved for an accommodation. See additional information below.
• Continuous Glucose Monitor – See additional information below
• Insulin Pump
• Spinal Cord Stimulator
• TENS Unit
• Medical Foot Stool – Must be for the purpose of supporting an injured leg or foot. The stool must be non-skid, have a metal base, and can be no larger than 14x14x12.
• Oxygen Tank – Must be self-contained and silent. If the oxygen makes noise, or if power is required, then applicants must apply and be approved for an accommodation.
• Canes
• Crutches
• Motorized Scooters/Chairs
• Walkers
• Wheelchair

Additional Information:

Applicants are not permitted to plug any device into their computer. If the medical device includes an accompanying external remote-control device, such as a cell phone, the remote-control device may not be taken into the testing room. If there is a need to take the external remote-control device into the testing room, including a cell phone, applicants must apply and be approved for an accommodation.
