The Colorado Supreme Court announced that starting with the July 2028 administration of the bar examination, law school graduates will take the NextGen examination rather than the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), which has been used in Colorado since 2012. Colorado will continue to administer the UBE until it transitions to the NextGen examination in July 2028. The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) will no longer offer the current components of the UBE after the February 2028 exam. More information about the NextGen examination can be found on NCBE’s website here.
The minimum passing score on the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) required for admission to practice law in Colorado is lowered from 276 to 270. This change is prospective and is applicable to applicants for admission beginning with the February 2023 Colorado bar exam administration, as well as to candidates who seek to transfer their scores to Colorado from the February 2023 administration of the UBE in other jurisdictions.
